Linen is one of the oldest textiles in the world - made from the fibres found in the stem of the flax plant. It is laborious to manufacture, but the fibers are very absorbent. Garments made of linen are considered luxurious for their quality and exceptional coolness and freshness in hot weather.

  • durable

  • breathable

  • softens as it is washed

  • wrinkles easily

  • high natural luster

  • absorbs a fair amount of moisture without feeling damp to the skin

  • fibers do not stretch

  • high resistance to damage from abrasion

  • resistant to moths and carpet beetles

Visual Characteristics:

Often associated with linen yarn is the presence of "slubs", or small knots which occur randomly along its length. Slubs are considered part of the aesthetic appeal of an expensive natural product and do not compromise the integrity of the fabric.

Care Instructions:

Linen is relatively easy to take care of, since it resists dirt and stains + has no lint or pilling tendency. It can be dry-cleaned, machine-washed or steamed. Although it can withstand high temperatures, we recommend washing it in cold water.

The tendency to wrinkle is often considered part of linen's particular "charm." Most linen garments are designed to be air-dried on a good clothes hanger and worn without ironing.
